Important Information for Dance Students

Recital:  The Nutcracker

All dance students will participate in a performance of The Nutcracker, which will take place in early December!

Dance classes will not meet on October 11 and November 22-27.

Pitter Patter Feet

Children will develop a sense of creativity and rhythm through dance and movement. Please bring a "Beanie Baby" to each class (pink ballet shoes optional).

Beginning Dance 1 & 2

In this class, basic steps and positions will be taught, along with creative movement and body recognition. These classes stress repetition for muscle strength and memory. Students enrolled in Beginning 1 are taught ballet (pink ballet shoes required). In Beginning 2, ballet and tap are taught (pink ballet and black tap shoes required).

Ballet/Tap 1 & 2 and Jazz/Tap 1

Students will learn basic steps of Ballet or Jazz. Students will work on flexibility, strength, and center work. In Tap, dancers will learn basic steps, rhythms, and combinations in center and moving across the floor. Black tap shoes and either pink ballet or black jazz shoes are required.

Intermediate Ballet/Tap/Jazz

These classes are a continuation of Ballet/Tap/Jazz 2 but are seperated to focus on one form of dance. Both the ballet and tap class strongly emphasize technique, terminology, and choreography.

Kinder Hip Hop

This is a prelude to Hip Hop 1. This fun class will introduce Hip Hop dancing appropriate for the age. Music like High School Musical, Cheetah Girls, and Hannah Montana will be used.

Hip Hop/Jazz Funk 1, 2, & 3 and Teen/Adult Hip Hop/Jazz Funk

Come and learn the basics of this new and exciting dance style. Hip Hop is derived from jazz and is similar to it in many ways; however, the hip hop style is considered to be the more contemporary version of jazz. Comfortable clothes and black jazz shoes required.

Pom/Cheer Dance

Emphasis will be placed on pom/cheer dance choreography. Students will learn how to dance within a team, learn formations, spacing, sharpness, synchronization, and the importance of performance will be taught. Students will be provided with pom poms.

Princess Dance

This class will give your child the opportunity to come to class dressed as her favorite princess! Technique and dances will be taught incorporating various Disney Princesses. Focus will be on ballet but will also include tap.

Musical Theatre Dance

This class will focus on styles of dance most used in Musical Theatre such as jazz, lyrical, and tap. Focus will also be given to stage direction and terminology often associated with musical theater. Lessons in engaging the audience will also be taught. Students in this class will be offered the opportunity to dance in the winter production of The Nutcracker.
