Grass Lake Road Pedestrian Underpass Complete!

Thank you for your patience.

The Grass Lake Road Underpass is complete and now open to the public for use.

History

Through years of planning, including being Priority Number 2 segment in the Lindenhurst Community Pedestrian and Bicycle Comprehensive Plan, Lindenhurst Park District received notice that this Grass Lake Road Pedestrian Underpass was approved for a 2013 matching Federal CMAQ grant (80/20 split) and an additional $150,000 Safe Routes to School grant.

This comprehensive project would not have been approved without intergovernmental cooperation.  Specifically, our thanks to Lake County Officials from the Department of
Transportation and the Forest Preserve; both staff and Board Members.  Also, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT).

Lake County Division of Transportation worked closely with the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Federal representatives on our behalf.

The proposed $3 million dollar project is 80% Federally funded, with 20% local share between Lake County Forest Preserve, Village of Lindenhurst, Lindenhurst Park District, and Lake Villa Township.  Our sincere thanks for this strong support.

The Grass Lake Road Pedestrian Underpass is essential in getting local folks and children safely "under" Grass Lake Road, as it connects to critical pathways through local parks, Forest Preserve Properties (including the Lake Countywide Millennium Trail), local subdivisions, and Millburn Middle School- to name a few.

Specifically, the Grass Lake Road Pedestrian Underpass will be between Lake County Forest Preserve's McDonald Woods and Lindenhurst's Oak Ridge Park.

Please review Lindenhurst Community Pedestrian and Bicycle Comprehensive Plan for details on underpass connections, including new Millennium Trail underpasses at Grand Avenue (Route 132) and at Rollins Road.

Again, this will be a great asset and very beneficial for the future of county and local residents utilizing current and future planned pedestrian pathway systems.

Thank you once again for your patience and understanding during construction.
