Senior Trips


No refunds are given for trips before or after the event, unless a replacement can be found by the Park District.  All refunds are assessed a $5 processing fee.  Full refunds will be given for any trip cancelled by the Park District.

 

Riverboat Ride and Lunch

Maxon’s Restaurant and The Pride of Oregon are well known for the delicious food and restful ride. The boat is an authentic smaller paddlewheeler on the Rock River. You’ll glide by the natural wooded setting as you either stay inside in the air or go up top and be outside. To further your enjoyment, there is a banjo player playing softly. The fifteen mile two hour journey takes you past Lowden State Park and you’ll see the large statue of Chief Black Hawk. Lunch will consist of chicken breast, veggie, rice, salad and dessert.

Japanese Garden and Lunch

Travel to Rockford, Il with us for a guided tour of Anderson Japanese Gardens. In this stressful world, their mission is to provide one of the most authentic Japanese Gardens in the world. Hopefully it will open your mind to a different culture, offering guests a place of peace and tranquility where they can find healing, renewed inspiration, and a re-energized soul. There are ponds, a 50 foot waterfall, Japanese carpentry, plants, and wildlife. We’ll enjoy lunch at the restaurant there which is included in the price. Wolff’s Flea Market has been in operation for 19 years and has continued to grow every season. There are approximately 600 vendors set up and ready to display their products to you. Chicago History Cruise

This beautiful ship, The Spirit of Chicago, takes us on a wonderful cruise along the Chicago skyline. Included is a narration of the history of downtown Chicago. There is also a DJ to provide music and also dancing if you desire. A delicious included buffet lunch of garden salad, baked tilapia, chicken breast, noodles, mashed potatoes and gravy, steamed veggies, fresh fruit, rolls and butter and a selection of desserts. Coffee and tea are also included and they have a cash bar service available. You can stay indoors or go up on top of the ship on the upper deck to be outdoors.

Greendale - Historic Farm & Botanical Gardens

Our tour starts with a twenty minute history of the village of Greendale with a step-on guide. After, we’ll watch a video at the Visitors Center and have time to shop at “The Taste of Home” Outlet Store. We will enjoy lunch which is included at The Harmony Inn the Village. We’ll view authentic 19th century farm life at Trimborn Farm and the Jeremiah Curtin House with a guided tour. This farm has nine period buildings and one of the largest stone barns in Wisconsin. Last is a guided tour of Boerner Botanical Gardens, Milwaukee County’s Living Museum of Plants.

Riverwalk Boat & Three Brewery Tour

This four hour boat tour on the Milwaukee River takes passengers to three famous breweries; The Milwaukee Ale House, The Lakefront Brewery and The Rock Bottom Brewery. Passengers will enjoy riding the “Brew City Queen II” that can accommodate up to forty people. The tour includes microbrew tastings and a narrated tour of the sites along the river. They can also tour the micro-brewery and hear about the history of the venue from local brewmasters.

Eddie Cash Show & Lunch

We will enjoy lunch and the Eddie Cash Show at the beautiful ballroom at “The Cotton Exchange”. The ballroom is an addition to a renovated barn that is otherwise a restaurant. Our lunch includes stuffed chicken breast, mashed red potatoes, tossed salad, vegetable, rolls and butter and cake for dessert. Coffee and tea are also included and there is a cash bar. After lunch, Eddie starts the show which consists of songs mainly from the 50’s & 60’s to country and pop. He is full of interesting stories about many other singers he has known and worked with during his career in Memphis, Las Vegas and Branson.

Applefest - Long Grove

We’re off to Long Grove for their famous Applefest. For those of you that have never been to Long Grove, it is a quaint village of beautiful residences and older homes remodeled into stores. There are antiques, apparel, fine arts, gifts, home furnishing, glass works, Irish Boutique , and many more shops. In the sidewalk areas and some streets are many vendors selling everything from tye-dyed t-shirts to wine and fudge. The theme of the day is apples, so you’ll be able to eat apple donuts, caramel apples, deep fried carmel apple pie, apple pies, apple slices covered with carmel, nuts, and whipped cream, and more. To drink they have soda, beer, apple martinis, apple juice, etc. The food vendors will have delicious jumbo brats, hot dogs, bbq ribs, pork sandwiches, Chinese food, hamburgers and much more. Lunch is not included. Leave the driving and parking to us!

Bohemian Restaurant & Bakery

This trip is so popular that I decided to repeat it. The food is good and so plentiful that you’re sure to have left-overs. It’s small, but it’s a place to come and eat dinners that you’d swear your grandmother was making in the back! You’ll get a plate lunch of their famous breaded pork tenderloin, chicken, and roast beef. You’ll also get a bowl of soup, red potatoes, red cabbage, veggie, gravy, rye bread, dumplings and a choice of kolachky’s or apple strudel for dessert. After lunch, (not included) we’ll go to Vesecky’s Bakery where you can buy cookies, coffee cakes, fruit slices, breads, pies, brownies, etc.

"Crazy Bout Broadway"

We’re off to Skokie, IL for an afternoon of food, fun, and theatre. This day will begin with a delicious lunch at “The Bagel”, which is not included . The menu is huge and they specialize in soups, corned beef sandwiches, blintzes noodle kugel, potato pancakes and much more. After lunch we’ll go to the Skokie Theatre for an entertaining one man show called “Crazy Bout Broadway”. There is a lot of history associated with this theatre. The Keystone Cops, Charlie Chaplin and Frances F. Bushman all played there. The manager of the theatre will tell us more details about the history. The theater is handicapped accessible.

Historic Cliffbreakers Riverside Resort

This beautiful resort is filled with interesting antiques from the world over. We’ll do a walking tour of everything from the gothic crest in the vestibule, to the marble doorway surrounds that were from the former entrance walk of Barclay’s Bank in London, England, to the Louis XV handcrafted table with 12 chairs and matching marble mirror. There is even a Sultan’s Suite which was designed over a period of six years from rare French Pecan and African Ebony and Ivory. Lunch, which is included is in a private ballroom with an outdoor river deck.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

This play takes place in the Oregon wilderness in the 1850’s. The story revolves around a country man who goes to town looking for a bride to marry and help take care of his six brothers. He finds a young bride who tries to marry off her new six rowdy brother-in-laws. All the brothers fall in love with women who are already spoken for, but decide to kidnap them all from a neighboring town. In the end the brides find love with the brothers and all live happily ever after. After the play we will enjoy lunch, which is included.

Hooray for the Holidays

A trip around Christmas time to the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva, WI is always a fun-filled day. When we arrive there is a whole line-up of gingerbread houses that you can look at and admire. Next, we’ll have a little time to look in their nice gift shops. After shopping we’ll enjoy an included lunch which consists of chicken breast, rice, veggie, rolls, butter and dessert. After lunch there is time to look at the beautiful holiday decorations all over the lodge or continue looking in the shops. The holiday show is filled with beautiful costumes, creative choreography and amazing singing and dancing performed with a live band. Once the show is over we meet in the lobby lounge area to hear some of the singers from the show sing Christmas Carols. This trip is sure to put a little holiday spirit in your day!
