The Lindenhurst Park District was established in 1988 to provide recreation programs and facilities for residents of all ages.  The park system operates on revenue received from the district's share of real estate property taxes, user fees and grants.

The district is governed by an elected Board of Park Commissioners who serve six year terms of office without pay.  The board meets the second Tuesday of each month at the Lindenhurst Park District Community Center.  Board members set policy for the district, which is administered by the Executive Director and a staff of recreation professionals.  The board receives community input through its citizens in various capacities; including community volunteers, and from the general public.

For the fiscal year 2018/19 the total budget for the Lindenhurst Park District includes revenues of $2,817,385 and expenses of $2,699,809.  The District has seven full time employees, two permanent part time employees, three year round part time employees, and 50-75 part time seasonal employees.
